Our local school Ysgol Y Cribarth visited us on the 15th October for a fun, outdoor learning experience in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons)!
The activity day consisted of crate stacking, orienteering, team building & a hill walk.

Mountain Adventure Day
The prospect of a day (and night) exploring the local wilderness filled the pupils with excitement for weeks in advance. The arrival at the breath-taking location above Abercrave did not disappoint. A morning of fun ensued, involving orienteering, tree climbing, crate tower building and an assault course, all under the expert supervision and encouragement of the instructors. With the pupils’ team building ethos suitably reinforced, it was time to refuel with a delicious hot meal ready for the next part of the expedition – a walk to a local peak. Sitting together at the top of the mountain as the sun set, provided memories that will last forever! But the day was nowhere near its end. We made our way down to the woodland. Now dark, we made dens by torchlight and built a fire. The packed lunches provided by our hosts were well-received at this point but the marshmallows were even better! Our day of adventure ended as we emerged from the wilderness and made our way back into the school car park where our parents were waiting, having seen our torches and heard our laughter long before.
As their teacher, I cannot think of anything that would have provided the pupils with a more enriching experience. More importantly, I cannot think of an experience the pupils needed more, especially given the times they have had to endure in 2020. It is the best day of education I have been involved with and one I will seek to replicate for other classes.
