Deputy Mayor Zdenek Hrib said the move is all about attracting “more cultured” and “wealthier” tourists who come for the city’s beauty, not the booze-fueled chaos. Business associations and locals largely support the decision, though some say it may simply push the fun elsewhere, or force tourists to get creative with unorganised crawls and earlier starts.
And it’s not just Prague! Other beloved party destinations, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Munich and Budapest are rolling out similar restrictions, some banning late-night alcohol sales or regulating short-term rentals to discourage binge tourism.
