Celebrate National Walking Day with Adventure Britain in the Brecon Beacons

Pen Y fanThere’s no better way to celebrate National Walking Day than by pulling on your boots, breathing in some fresh mountain air, and exploring the incredible landscapes of the Brecon Beacons with Adventure Britain.

On 2nd April, we encourage everyone—whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a first-time walker—to get outside and experience the joy of walking in one of the UK’s most beautiful natural settings. Nestled in the heart of South Wales, the Brecon Beacons National Park offers a unique combination of stunning scenery, rugged peaks, and rich Welsh heritage—perfect for making memories on foot.

The Best Walking Spots in the Brecon Beacons

Whether you’re after a gentle ramble or a more challenging hill walk, the Brecon Beacons caters to all. Here are some of our favourite routes to explore:

1. Pen y Fan

The highest peak in South Wales and an iconic summit for walkers. Standing at 886m, Pen y Fan rewards your efforts with sweeping panoramic views—on a clear day, you can even see all the way to the Bristol Channel.

2. The Four Waterfalls Walk

This magical circular trail in the Fforest Fawr Geopark takes you through ancient woodlands and past four breathtaking waterfalls, including Sgwd yr Eira, where you can walk behind the cascading water.

3. Corn Du and Cribyn Ridge Walk

Often paired with Pen y Fan, this ridge walk gives you an incredible hilltop experience with dramatic views and fewer crowds—perfect for the more adventurous.

4. Llyn y Fan Fach & Llyn y Fan Fawr

Explore the mystical Black Mountain range, where legend and landscape meet. This route is quieter than the central Beacons and offers spectacular glacial lake views.
