Brecon Beacons’ Win ‘Best Destination’ in National Awards

Brecon Beacons Best DestinationBannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) was awarded as Wales’ ‘Best Destination’ at The National Tourism Awards for Wales 2018, held at the Celtic Manor. Organised by Visit Wales, The National Tourism Awards for Wales celebrates the very best of Wales’ tourism by showcasing the country’s tourism businesses and industry’s achievements.


Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) Best In Wales

Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park Authority and Brecon Beacons Tourism, on behalf of the Brecon Beacons Destination Partnership submitted ‘Brecon Beacons’ into the ‘Best Destination’ category and were selected as regional winners for Mid Wales. They then fought off stiff competition in the National Awards ceremony from Wye Valley and Forest of Dean (South East Wales), Zip World (North Wales) and Fishguard Bay Welcome (South West Wales) to be crowned with the prestigious title.

Tourism Minister Lord Elis-Thomas presented the Awards, and said:

“The National Tourism Awards are a showcase of the quality and variety of experiences which can be had here in Wales – and also show the commitment and professionalism of our vibrant tourism sector in delivering these experiences and welcoming our visitors to Wales.
“The industry does an incredible job, and I am so proud of everyone who works in this sector, helping showcase Wales to the World. We have every reason to have confidence for the future – confidence in what we have to offer, confidence in how we are offering it and confidence that those who visit Wales will experience a high quality, memorable experience. Congratulations to all on your well-deserved recognition.”

The overall winners were chosen from 44 regional winners, which were selected from more than 400 entries. Visit Wales stated that there was an exceptionally high standard of entries from across Wales this year and in total, across the different categories, there were seven regional winners from within the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) Destination. This highlights the quality of the tourism product within the area and further supports the ‘Best Destination’ award.

“We are delighted that the Brecon Beacons destination was recognised as Wales’ Best Destination! We have worked particularly hard over the years, bringing together representatives from the public and private sector to help us develop the ‘Brecon Beacons’ partnership and brand. This award is dedicated to all those people and incredible tourism businesses who have helped and supported us to showcase the Brecon Beacons. We now want to celebrate this achievement and attract more people to the region so as to further boost our local economy. A series of celebratory events will be planned, further information will be shared in the coming weeks”
