Ideas for Stag Weekends in the UK

Call of the Wild’s Adventue Britain is one of the UK’s leading organisers of stag weekends.

We offer adventure activity weekends in or around our beautiful Brecon Beacons. This base is close to the Gower Peninsula and the seaside city of Swansea, where most stag parties end up on Friday and/or Saturday night.

All stag weekend packages that we offer are under the supervision of trained outdoor activity staff, who will look after and make sure your weekend is a safe and unforgettable experience.

What Adventure Britain do

Adventure Britain delivers stag weekend activity packages to, on average, 3000 people a year in the UK. We know how difficult it is to organise a stag weekend, and all the logistics involved, and that is why we can manage the whole process for you and make it as painless as possible. Thousands of people rely on us to arrange the whole stag weekend package, from transport and accommodation to activities (day and evening) and food – leaving you to enjoy the whole, fun experience.

In 2010 94.5% of our customers rated their stag weekends good or excellent in terms of their overall experience and value for money.

UK Stag Weekend Credentials

Adventure Britain have been providing the very best stag weekend activities for 12 years.

We take quality and your safety very safely, that is why we are Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS) Licensed, members of the Institute of Outdoor Learning, Investors in People recognised and Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Accredited.

We have also received numerous awards, such as Welsh Small Business of the Year 2008/2009 and Team Building Company of the Year.

Stag Weekend Activities

Many stag weekend activities take place in and around cities across the UK. Ours are different and we have chosen the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and the Gower Coastal Park to be our adventure playgrounds. We offer over 30 outdoor activities including canyoning, paintball, caving, climbing, quad biking, surfing, clay pigeon shooting, coasteering and golf packages. All activities are supervised by well-qualified trainers (our main facilitator is an ex-marine who did a winter crossing of Iceland on skis) ensuring both your enjoyment and safety at all times.

Take a look at our UK Stag Weekend Activities page to discover the wide range of activities we can offer your stag group.

Brecon Beacons Walks Crashed Wellington Bomber

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Crashed World War II Wellington Bomber, Garreg Goch

The mountainous areas of the Brecon Beacons National Park are without question a paradise for all those who love walking in the hills and include the highest peaks in southern Britain. However, the rolling hills and gentle landscape hide a harsher and more sinister side to their existence. In bad weather conditions, this area can be as harsh and unforgiving as anywhere in the world. It is not just by accident therefore, that the Special Air Service (SAS), choose this part of Wales for much of their training and selection process. Over thirty aircraft crash sites are recorded within the Park, and a booklet containing the location and brief history of each is available from offices of the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority. Tragically, many have been fateful and some sites are marked by memorial cairns and plaques inscribed with the names of those lost.

Brecon Beacons Walk Ideas – Western Brecon Beacons

Today, at many sites, there is little or no evidence of wreckage and crash sites can be found only by map reference and individual story. The crash site of Wellington Bomber MF509, at Garreg Goch (Red Stone), in the western Beacons, (Grid Ref: SN817168) still has a great deal of wreckage and the history of this crash is both interesting and heart rendering. On the night of 20th November 1944, Wellington MF509 from 22 Operational Training Unit, Wellesbourne, Mountford, on a cross country exercise, developed trouble in the starboard Hercules XVI engine and flew into shower clouds, building up heavy layers of ice on the wings. With insufficient power from the port engine, the aircraft lost height and crashed into Garreg Goch killing all six Canadian crew members.

The six men killed were:

Sgt. Charles Hamel – Pilot

Sgt: Jules Robert Rene Villeneuve – Navigator

F/Off. William Joseph Allison -Bomb Aimer

Sgt. Joseph Paul Ernest Burke – Air Gunner

Sgt. Arthur Grouix – Air Gunner

Sgt.Gerard Dusablon – Air Gunner

All the crew were interred with full military honours, at the Canadian War Cemetery at Blacon, Chester, England. Wreckage is scattered over a wide area, with the main wheel being a very long way from the main site near the river Giedd. Until recently, the Canadian families of the crew, knew nothing of the circumstances or location of the crash, nor of the existence of the memorial plaque that now stands at Garreg Goch.

In 2005, the photograph of an airman, found at the site in 1944, was placed on the Internet in an effort to identify him. This stimulated co-operation between McGill University in Montreal, Canada and the people of the Swansea Valley. Only then, some 60 years later, did the families know the specific fate of their loved ones and of the plane. The crash site is in a remote and lonely spot, at about 520 metres above the upper Swansea Valley. In May 2006, a climb to the site, was undertaken by representatives from McGill University, surviving family members of the crew and people from the Swansea Valley. Later, in November of that year, McGill University established a display detailing Wellington MF509′s story.

Golf

What is Golf?

I would be amazed if there is anyone out there who doesn’t know what golf is. Wikipedia describes Golf as a sport in which individual players or teams hit a ball into a hole using various clubs and also is one of the few ball games that does not use a fixed standard playing area. It is defined in the Rules of Golf as “playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules.”

Who Can Play Golf ?

Golf is an activity suitable for adult groups. This is not a beginners course and a degree of competency is required. A handicap is required.

Where Can I Play Golf?

Call of the Wild’s golf sessions take place in the wonderful Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. We use a local course on the southern edge of the Park near Ystradfellte with some spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.

Duration/Length of the Golfing session?

This is variable depending on the size, nature of the group, nature and the prevailing weather conditions on the day. Obviously if you have a four ball game it’s going to take longer than two of you playing.

When can I do it?

You can book our golf sessions in Wales all year. However it is sometimes more difficult to guarantee tee times during the Summer when the course is at its busiest. Book early!

What is it going to cost me?

Phone for details or contact us. This will vary on depending on the nature of the booking .

What will I have to Wear ?

Even though this is not a stuffy or formal club the normal golf club dress code applies. No jeans, only dress shorts and golf shoes must be worn

Good Combinations of Activities

Golf is suitable for combination with other activities for weekends or longer duration visits. It can be combined with any of the range of activities available whether it be canyoning, gorge walking, climbing, quad biking, paintball and clays. See also our adventure days where in a single day you can sample climbing and another activity such as gorge walking and/or caving.

Can I Use a Camera?

Yes you can.

Take Away a Video or Photos

We can arrange for a professional photographer to follow you golf. The photos can be put onto disc for you to take away before the end of your stay. Please contact us for more details.

In certain circumstances we can arrange for your group to filmed but this is only by prior arrangement.

Wouldn’t it be great to have those visual images to show at the reception for stag parties, show back in the office following an outdoor team building event or to keep as a memory of those special occasions such as 40th birthdays.

Combined Activity Day – Clay Pigeon Shooting & 4×4 Off-Road Driving

This is a great value for money combined activity day. Try two exhilerating activities in the same day for the price of one. Try off-road driving in a purpose built 4×4 off-road vehicle. Once you have mastered the art of driving where no vehicle should normally go then try your hand at clay pigeon shooting.

“I had a fantastic weekend. Scenery is beautiful and everyone who was involved in organising our activities and instructing us were great fun and friendly. I would love to come back again.” Ms J Ray, Guernsey

What Will I be Doing during the Off-Road Driving and Clay Pigeon Shooting Activity Day?

Up to 4 people wil be driving around our off-road circuit testing thier driving skills. They will rotate the driving and each take it turn to drive around the circuits. Others in the group will be trying thier hand at the clay shooting. Whenthe drivers have completed their challenges, hopefully in one peice, you will swap over and those who were shooitng change to the driving and vice versa.

“Thanks very much for making our weekend go as smoothly as possible. All members of staff at Merlins and the activities made us feel very welcome and made the whole stay an extremely enjoyable one. Thanks again. ” Mr D Whittaker, Cumbria

I would like you to pass on our thanks to all the staff who provided us with a great welcome and excellent tuition. Finally, Ystradgynlais is a lovely place, all the locals we met made us very welcome. ” Mr. P. Clements

What will I have to Wear for my Clays and Driving Session?

For your activity session we will provide you with a full kit list upon booking. For guidance, all you need to bring is warm, comfortable clothing.

Good Combinations of Activities

The clay pigeon shooting and off-road driving is a full day activity due to the length of the session and its physical demands. Therefore it is only suitable for combination with other activities for weekends or longer duration visits. It can be combined with any of the range of activities available whether it be caving, climbing, quads, paintball and clay pigeon shooting.

 Can I Use a Camera?

Yes you can. We recommend that at least one of your party take a camera as you’ll have some stunning pictures to show everyone and to prove those tall tales are actually true!

Stag Weekends – How to Plan Them

Planning The Perfect Stag Party

Stag Parties Weekends > Stag Weekend Planning

How To Organise a Great Hassle Free Stag Party?

canyoning jumping through a waterfall on a stag doCall of the Wild has been in the business of organising stag do’s (some people say stag dos!) for clients for over 11 years. Having many years’ experience of dealing with stag groups there do appear to be a number of basic lessons that can be learnt about planning the perfect stag do (often referred to as a stag night, stag weekend or bachelor party).

Some of these tips have been suggested to us by our past customers learning from their personal experience. So here are some top tips and ideas to help you plan the perfect stag do.

1. Confirm Date of Wedding

Sounds obvious but unfortunately many best men get this wrong and don’t leave themselves enough time to arrange things.

2. Confirm Rough Dates for the Stag Party

It is recommended that this should be no closer than two weeks before the wedding although this is flexible. Planning a stag do any later and things can start to go wrong – like the groom doesn’t make it to the wedding. As he is your responsibility (best man) do you really want to face the bride and explain what has happened? Setting rough dates with the Groom will also make it easier in narrowing down the numbers for the event.

It is extremely unusual for everyone you invite to be able to make the stag do. The most important person it has to be convenient for is the Groom, so the dates have to set to suit him.

3. Who To Invite to the Stag Party?

The Groom obviously, his friends from home, school, college, work and family. It is becoming more common for invites to be issued to the Groom’s father and, wait for it, the Bride’s father – you’ll have to ask the Groom about that one! Make sure the stag party doesn’t get too large. Don’t forget you’re going to have to organise this lot. The bigger the group the more difficult it is to manage. You’ll have to collect the money etc. We’ve all been there and had that one person who is slow to pay.

Also you have a number of different groups e.g. school friends, college friends, work associates who may split into their respective groups and not mix as much as the Groom would like. So keep the group size manageable. The Groom is the best person to ask as he knows them all. One important tip is to get the e-mail addresses of all those invited. This is by far and away the easiest way to co-ordinate everyone.

Finally we all know one or two, how do we say, difficult people, especially when drinking! It would be prudent to not invite those people to the stag do if you feel they won’t get on with the group or locals. You want this to be remembered for the right reasons not the wrong ones.

4. Choosing the Stag Weekend Location and What To Do

Again this depends on the Groom. It is becoming more popular to go away for a weekend and try some unusual stag do activities. The budget of the group and the amount of time off work and spent away from partners/families etc will dictate how far you travel. Is it going to be 3 weeks in Barbados or a night in the local boozer? Stag do activities are also affected by the credit crunch!

5. Should You Arrange The Stag Weeeknd Yourself or Use a Company?

This really depends on you and what you intend to do on the stag do. However, it is always advisable to use a company to arrange everything for your stag do, especially for bigger groups. This is far less trouble than doing it yourself and can be more cost effective. You should also bear in mind that many places such as pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants no longer accept stag groups – Dublin and Tenby being prime examples of places where stag groups are becoming less welcome.

Ensure that whoever you use arranges everything for you – be sure you know what you are paying for and what is excluded. Is it full board or are evening meals extra, what about lunch? Do you have to drive everywhere yourself or are transfers provided? Do you really want to be looking for your stag activity venue with a convoy of 10 cars and you navigating?

If you are wary of using a company, then ask the company for testimonials or if you contact past customers. It’s your head on the block so make sure the groom has a memorable time (well maybe being memorable is asking too much) !

6. During the Stag Do

Jokes and embarrassing the Groom are traditional but remember don’t go too far. You are the one who will have to explain to the Bride why her beloved hasn’t got any body hair! You know the Groom best and will know where to draw the line – don’t you? Best advice is not to come up with any crazy stag do ideas. A good way to get everyone involved quickly is to have t-shirts printed with photos or nicknames of everyone. This breaks the ice and gets everyone talking. The other one which is very popular (those of you who have sampled Swansea will vouch for this) is fancy dress – a must not only for the Groom but also the group. ALL Stag Do’s will come up with the usual dilemma of stripper or no stripper. Again you know the Groom. Don’t be pressured by the group.

Keep a kitty. It is far easier with a big group than going in rounds as someone will be missed out or miss their round – especially as the night draws on. Gather the money early on and replenish when needed. So those who wish to drop out later on in the night can.

Make sure you can get back to your accommodation at the end of the night! Take the address or phone number with you. You’d be amazed how many blokes forget or don’t know where they are staying. This is especially true if they travel in someone else’s car. Many companies will arrange the transport for you as a matter of course.

Finally and most important of all LOOK AFTER THE GROOM – HE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. You may have to lie for the rest of his life, which could be short if his prospective wife found out about some of the things that traditionally go on.

Ideas for Stag Do Activities

When it comes to stag dos most of us think of a night out with the lads, drinking way too much all night long in the many pubs and clubs in town. If we want to do something a little different, we might book a special venue or perhaps take a trip to another town or city, but a stag do doesn’t always have to be orientated around a boozy night out. For alternative stag do ideas in the UK, look no further than Adventure Britain. With 12 years of experience in organising alternative stag nights for groups, we know how to organise a great time out for all.

With a variety of different activities to enjoy, there is something for everybody to join in with. Not only do we offer something a bit different, you can also adhere to traditional stag do rules thanks to our location near the bustling nightlife of nearby Swansea City. For the daring among you we have activities that will help to get the heart racing, while those that would rather have a more sedate time can choose from more relaxing activities such as golf and fishing.

Stag Do in the UK

When you are planning your stag do with the lads the chances are you would rather go somewhere away from home if possible. The good news is that Britain is inundated with great places for stag dos and weekends, with towns and cities throughout the country that have a great nightlife and lots else to do. Although many might think the best stag do locations are towns and cities with countless pubs and clubs, we at Adventure Britain offer stag dos that offer something quite different.

For us, the best stag do destinations are out in the wild where the whole group can join in with exhilarating activities. From canyoning, rock climbing, to quad biking and paintball Adventure Britain know how to organise stag parties that will never be forgotten.

At our fantastic location in Wales, you will all get to experience a great time in the closest great wilderness to London. With such a huge and beautiful back yard to play in, your stag party will be an adventure quite like no other.

Stag Do Themes

You can usually spot a stag do a mile away because they are often themed, with a big group of lads drinking and having fun. The themes can be just about anything you can think of so with a little imagination your stag do can be a whole lot of fun. Remember though that while you are being imaginative with the theme, stag do s don’t always have to be a boozy event where everybody gets drunk. Instead, a stag do could be something really quite different and Adventure Britain is in the business of arranging stag dos that may not be what you would normally expect.

Our stag do challenges range from the sedate and relaxing to activities that will really get the heart pumping. Located in such a large wilderness with many different landscapes to enjoy, every challenge will be very much different from the last. Once you have tired of the physical challenges and would like to just have some fun, the hectic nightlife of Swansea is not far away so you can enjoy a few drinks also.

The Perfect Combination: Action Packed Activities and a Swansea or Cardiff Stag Do Night Out.

The stereo typical image of a stag do is a bunch of lads getting together, having a few drinks and generally getting up to no good. This means that towns and cities renowned for their nightlife are popular destinations for stag dos and many parties choose to travel for the occasion.

Get active;
Adventure Britain arranges stag do weekends with a twist. Climbing, clay pigeon shooting and canyoning are just a few of the activities that we organise for whole parties of gentlemen that are on a stag do. What’s more is that we use all our own facilities and are not just booking agents, so we can assure you that a great time will be had by all.

Paint the town red;
After a long day of activities a night out on the town is just what you need to relax, let loose and the perfect climax to an awesome Stag do weekend. The ideal combination is an adventurous stag do in the wilds of Wales and then a great night out in the bright lights of our local city Swansea, which is equipped with an array of bars and clubs to suit all tastes. Though if you want to travel a little further then you can end your stag do in Cardiff. But where ever you go, you can be assured that our friendly staff are waiting at your Adventure Britain accommodation, to tend to all your all needs and your next day hangover!

What is Quad Biking?

Quad bikes are known by a number of terms including “all-terrain vehicle”. It is also used to describe a number of small open motorised buggies and tricycles designed for off-road use. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) defines an ATV as a vehicle that travels on low pressure tyres, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, and with handlebars for steering control.

Gorge Walking

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

What is Gorge Walking or Gorge Scrambling?

Gorge walking also known as gorge scrambling in Wales can be a combined water/rock activity. Gorge walking in the UK can represent a spectrum of activities some of which are mostly rock activities and some of which are mostly water activities. Also referred to as ghyll scrambling in other parts of the UK this is can be done by both adults and children. Our gorge walking activity is not to be confused with our canyoning activity. They are two totally different activities. Gorge walking is more suited to families and children as we use a less extreme river. See our separate page on canyoning for more information.

Most fantastic fun we’ve had for ages. Can’t stop talking about the activity. Instructors were brilliant, excellent sense of humour and very patient. This was great value – the perfect weekend.” Connie Sutherland

What Does Gorge Walking Entail/What will I be doing

The best way of describing our activity is a river adventure . With our guides, you travel through a steep sided gorge following the course of the river by various ways and means. This can involve sliding down rapids, swimming down rapids, floating down fast flowing chutes and waves, climbing beside waterfalls and of course jumping off those adrenalin pumping 20ft ledges into deep pool.

“I would like to thank you for a fantastic weekend we all had with Call of the Wild. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and everything ran like clockwork. ” Dave Nicholson.

Who Can Do Gorge Walking?

Gorge walking in Wales can be tried by all ages and abilities. The youngest we would recommend is 8 years old and the eldest depends on your physical ability. the day can be tailored to suit your needs.

You can’t do gorge scrambling to this sort of level and in such stunning surroundings in many other parts of the UK. So come to the Brecon Beacons, Wales, UK and sample gorge walking for yourself. It should definitely be on the list of things to do before the kids grow up. A wonderful opportunity for an unforgettable shared family experience..

Caving

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Caving in Wales, UK

What is Caving in Wales?

Caving or speleology is the underground exploration of natural or man-made caverns. Caves are one of the most fascinating environments known to man where it is still possible to participate in original exploration. Cave systems have taken thousands of years to evolve their fantastic shapes, and crystal & clay formations. Stalagtites and stalagmites found across the rocky cave floor and roofs are just two types of calcite formations that may greet a visitor to this unique natural world. Virgin clay floors remain as pristine as the day ancient floodwaters last receded. A caving trip and caving tour takes you to a world that, whether you are the first to enter or not, will leave an unforgettable impression.

Unfortunately, very few people, apart from caving clubs, are able to experience this remarkable environment  so take advantage of this opportunity whilst in the South Wales area. Caves are graded from 1 to 5 to give some idea of the level of difficulty:-

Grade 1 – Easy cave with no real difficulties or dangers.
Grade 2 – Easy cave with minor difficulties
Grade 3 – 5 Moderate’ Difficult and Severe

Caving differs slightly to potholing in that caving follows more of the horizontal bedding plains and faults whilst potholing involves more vertical exploration of shafts.

What Will I Be Doing During the Caving Session in South Wales?

Your caving activities in Wales can involve walking and crawling through a whole new subterranean world – one you never knew existed. Be amazed by the rock formations, attempt many of the challenges presented by them such as the intriguingly named “Toilet”. South Wales has some of the best limestone caving in northern Europe. This provides the flexibility to choose the right cave to suit all sizes, ages and abilities. On our very doorstep we have the biggest cave entrance in Wales and the largest cave passage in the United Kingdom. With Call of the Wild’s experienced instructors you will be kitted out with the caving equipment and caving gear including caving helmet, lamp and caving suit. An incredible experience and one not to be missed.

Who Can Do Caving ?

A caving experience in South Wales is an activity suitable for all ages and abilities. Given the variety of caves in South Wales we can choose the one best suited to the age and ability of the group. All ages find the experience exhilarating. You don’t have to be cave men to enjoy this activity.

Where Can I do Caving ?

Call of the Wild’s caving sessions take place in the wonderful range of limestone caves on offer within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. Caves such as Bridge Cave, White Ladies, Porth-Yr-Ogof (2,220m in length), Little Neath River (7,855m in length) can be used. These are stunning cave systems.

Duration/Length of the Caving session?

This is variable depending on the size, nature of the group, nature of the event and the prevailing weather conditions on the day. A cave session can be tailored to meet your groups requirements. A session can be anything from 2 to 3 hours up to 2 days.

When can I do it?

We operate our caving sessions in South Wales all year.

What is it going to cost me?

Phone for details or contact us. This will vary depending on the nature of the booking and age of participants.

What will I have to Wear for my Caving Session?

A full caving kit list will be issued upon booking however we will supply you with a helmet, lamp and caving suit.
You need to bring old warm clothes. No jeans. As to footwear, good fitting wellingtons with non-slip treads are best, otherwise boots without hooks for laces are suitable.

Whatever you wear will get wet but that’s part of the fun!

Good Combinations of Activities

Caving is suitable for combination with other activities for weekends or longer duration visits. It can be combined with any of the range of activities available whether it be canyoning, gorge walking, climbing, quad biking, paintball and clays. Rock Climbing UK

Rock Climbing with Call of the Wild in the Brecon Beacons, Wales, UK

Climbing is a rock activity. What goes up must come down – well firmly attached to a rope anyway. A great way of seeing the majestic Brecon Beacons National Park scenery – even hanging upside down. For some people rock climbing is about a journey to a summit on a sunny day, for others it is an intense physical and mental challenge requiring training and effort. For others it is a great fun outdoor activity and an opportunity to try something completely different. Rock climbing in Wales is about putting on a climbing harness and enjoying yourself in the outdoors on boulders and outcrops, in old quarries and sea cliffs and remote mountain crags. We will supply you with a qualified climbing instructor and climbing guide who will oversee your safety and teach you the skills necessary to have a thoroughly exhilarating experience.

“ Just like to say what a fantastic time we all had and how impressed we were with your company.” Ray Wan

Who Can Do Rock Climbing ?

Climbing in Wales is suitable for any age from 5 upwards. We can offer a range of guided climbing fundays and programmes starting with the complete novice through to full climbing training and assessment for Single Pitch Award, and Mountain Instructor Award. You don’t need any previous experience to start climbing so it is a great group activity and a great way to spend part of your holiday. With young people it is a valuable activity for building confidence and trust and interdependence within groups.

Canyoning in the Brecon Beacons, Wales, UK

Canyoning in the Brecon Beacons with Adventure Britain

What is Canyoning?

Adventure Canyoning or canyoneering in Wales can be a Combined Water and Rock Activity. Canyoning in the UK can represent a spectrum of activities some of which are mostly rock activities and some of which are mostly water activities. Canyoning or canyoneering, as it is better known in the USA, is one of the best high adrenaline activities you can do in the UK. Wales is one of the best areas in the UK to try this awesome activity. If you are going to try it then use the experts. What is it? Well take a look at the videos at the foot of this page.

Visit Britain’s busiest Canyoning Company

Many of the following names are used by different people to mean quite different activities:-

  • gorge walks or scrambles (can be wet or dry or alternating the two, involving the ascent or descent of a water course);
  • adventure walks or scrambles (covers a multitude of variations); Hen party canyoning with call of the Wild in the Brecon Beacons, Wales
  • canyoning or canyoneering, (usually wet. It traditionally involves the descent of a steep water course and is a high adrenalin activity for adults);
  • adventure swimming (another name for coasteering or a non-technical variation of canyoning);
  • river running (deliberately swimming down white water rapids).

Call of the Wild’s activity very much falls within the canyoning, river running and adventure walk descriptions set out above. Canyoning or canyoneering with Call of the Wild in the Brecon Beacons, Wales is not to be confused with the other activities such as gorge walking. Call of the Wild’s canyoning sessions are very much for the adrenaline junky! How does jumping off 20ft waterfalls sound? What about a 30ft waterfall? If this sounds appealing then give us a call because this is the activity for you.

“Most fantastic fun we’ve had for ages. Can’t stop talking about canyoning. Instructors were brilliant, excellent sense of humour and very patient. This was great value – the perfect weekend.” Connie Sutherland

What does Canyoning entail/What will I be doing?

The best way of describing our canyoning activity is white water rafting but without the raft. With our guides, you descend a stunning steep sided gorge by various ways and means. This can involve sliding down rapids, swimming down rapids, floating down fast flowing chutes and waves, walking behind some breathtaking waterfalls and of course jumping off those jaw dropping waterfalls.

“I would like to thank you for a fantastic weekend we all had with Call of the Wild. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and everything ran like clockwork. Canyoning was amazing.” Dave Nicholson

Who can do Canyoning?

Canyoning in Wales does require a degree of physical fitness. It can be demanding as it involves a lot of adrenaline, swimming and walking. However it is suitable even if you can’t swim as we provide you with buoyancy aids. It is normal to have people within a group who can’t swim. We would usually recommend that nobody under the age of 16 years of age attempts the full canyonning gorge. For younger less physically able customers we offer alternative combined rock and water activities such as gorge walking.

Where can I do Canyoning?

Call of the Wild’s canyoning sessions are based in the Brecon Beacons, Wales, UK – in the part of the famous Brecon Beacons National Park known as waterfall country. We use the rivers in the Ystradfellte region on the southern edge of the Park which provides us with a wonderful adventure playground. You can’t do canyoning to this sort of level and in such stunning surroundings in many other parts of the UK. So come to the Brecon Beacons, Wales, UK and sample Canyoning for yourself. It should definitely be on the list of things to do before you pass your sell by date.

“We had an absolutely fantastic weekend thanks! The activities were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone – especially the canyoning.” Beverley McGonagle

For your canyoning session we will provide you with a full kit list upon booking. For guidance, we will provide you with a wet suit, buoyancy aid and helmet.
